Control Center Accessibility (iOS18)

iPhone 15 Pro shows the controls gallery

Control Center is about to receive an update on the upcoming release of iOS 18. Controls are a new type of widget that extend app functionality into system spaces like Control Center, the Lock Screen, and the Action button. There are two types of controls: buttons and toggles. Controls use an app intent to perform their actions, similar to how interactive widgets operate. They can be placed for the first time on the lock screen or anywhere in the control center itself (which now also incorporates groups similar to springboard pages but vertical). New controls can be found on the controls gallery, and once placed, they can be grouped, rearranged, and resized.

Here's a list of the controls available in the current iOS 18 beta, totaling 77 and divided into 20 categories. Of those categories, 4 are specifically labeled with the word "accessibility," accounting for almost half (45%) of all default controls.

3D Pie charting the number of controls per category, displaying the labels and values for the categories containing the word "accessbility". Vision Accessibility 19%, Hearing Accessibility 12%, Motor Accessibility 9%, and Accessibility 5%.

And that's it, this is an evidence-oriented piece, and I'll delegate the conclusions 🔘
